GETTING THERE Genova airport 65 km (50 minutes to the property) BY CAR
Detailed directions to Mioglia
Assuming that you arrive at Genoa (Genova) airport, pick up your car and head for the A10 Autostrada (motorway) which is signposted from the airport car park. Collect a pass at the motorway toll, and take the general direction of Ventimiglia (not Genova, which leads you to the opposite direction). After joining the motorway stay on it, following directions for Ventimiglia or Savona. Ignore any other exits and do not take the exit for Alessandria, Torino or Milano. Pass the exits for Arenzano, Cogoleto, Varazze and Celle Ligure.
Get off the motorway at the exit signposted Albisola. At the toll you need to pay around 2.20 euro in coins, bank notes or by credit card. Just after the toll (10 meters) turn left on the main road, called Corso Mazzini SP334 (for your information, if you instead decide to turn right, you will get to the sea within a couple of minutes). Continue on SP334 which leads north, out of Albisola, in the general direction of Stella, Pontinvrea and Sassello. At times, the road becomes very bendy and you will need to slow down, ignoring the Italian drivers behind you. Pass through the village of Stella. At Giovo, turn left signposted Pontinvrea/Mioglia (do not continue straight to Sassello). Go through the town of Pontinvrea, where there are some shops if you want to stop for provisions (depending on the time of day, the shops at Mioglia may be closed). Just after Pontinvrea, turn right, signposted Mioglia. Drive to the center of the village and park. We will come and collect you.
Normally it takes 20 minutes from the airport to Albisola, and another 30 minutes from Albisola to Mioglia. The roads are well signposted, but you need to be on the ball.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Although a car is strongly recommended, it is not essential. If you don’t want to hire a car you could come by public transport. We can give you a lift locally if you are stuck. From Genova airport there is a frequent coach service to the Genova train station, where you can pick up the train to Albisola or Savona (from Savona you can catch the bus number 7 to bring you back to Albisola train station). From Albisola train station there is a coach that comes to Mioglia, running twice a day. Contact us for the coach timetable. Savona can also be reached by frequent trains from Nice, Torino or Milano.
In theory you can come all the way by train from the UK – we have done so many times. You need to get from London to Paris by Eurostar (2h 30 mins), and then by TGV high-speed train to Nice (5 h). From Nice catch the direct train to Savona (2h 30 mins).
From Nice you could also catch a local train that goes to Ventimiglia, where you change to take the train to Savona (some connections also stop at Albisola). Trains run every 20-30 minutes and the trip takes 3 h 30 mins. Otherwise, you can come by train via Torino and the travel times are comparable with the above option. It is possible to hire a car in Savona and drive up to us. This takes about 30 minutes or a bit longer if there is traffic. For detailed directions to the estate please contact the owners.
